Magnitka goalie Alexander Pechursky (#34) gets hit by a slap shot by Nikolai Bushuyev (#17) of Severstal. That was Pechursky’s third game of the season.
Goalie Bobby Goepfert describes it: “Sometimes the cage absorbs the blow so it isn’t too painful, but there are other times where it will catch you flush and it feels like when you get hit with a basketball in the mouth/nose.”
I’m still tagging this as “goalie love”, not “goalie pain”.
Later in the same game Sergei Mozyakin (#10, MAG) has the perfect scoring opportunity from behind the net. He can’t curl the puck properly and it goes wide. Don’t feel sorry for him though – Mozyakin is still the leading scorer with 9-18-27 (18GP).
